On the New Cluster: Port Rules page, select the existing port rule and click on edit. Type port range. Select Affinity mode to none. Click OK. Click on the Add button to a new rule for port number using the same steps. Verify that the second NLB node is added successfully.

Whilst studying for a MS exam and reading up on NLB clustering I came across the following statement about unicast mode in an NLB cluster with one nic: The MAC address created for the virtual network adapter is shared among the participants within the cluster.

Here's my theory on why: If the server is now assigned a virtual MAC address which is the same vmac address as the other hosts how does my PC communicate with that node only? Actually I may have just realised this myself Please confirm if correct. Tuesday, May 15, AM. Evans 0. Wednesday, May 16, AM. Hi Graham, Thanks for posting here. Thursday, May 17, AM. I think both of you are missing my point. Firstly I know how NLB works. If any device whether it where a windows machine, unix box or mac would should have the same issue.

Since network communication on a LAN happens at the MAC address level my question was relating to how machines can tell whether traffic is meant for a unique IP address or not. Anyway I think I was right in the first place with my asumption above. I think that all nodes receive the packets AND process them.
