In reply to Diana D's post on January 31, In reply to scarecrow's post on February 1, Hi, Step 1: Open your laptop and turn it on.
I have the same problem with a Dell Vostro , running win vista 32 bits. I want to format my computer but the same black screen appears in the beginning and I can't change the boot sequence. When I press F2, F8 or F12, appearently it stops running and keep the black screen, until I hit "enter" a couple times so it start the windows. If you continue to receive errors, continue to the next step.
If no new hardware was added or you continue to get this prompt, verify no error or conflictions exist in CMOS. Press the indicated key to enter setup and verify that all settings are correct. Any Idea? Select F2 to enter the bios settings and change to the boot order page. Ensure you have a diamond symbol to the left of each device you need to boot. After I rebuilt the laptop these settings had been disabled and they needed to be enabled.
Select each item and press the spacebar to enable the item. Once enabled it should show bold white with the diamond symbol to the left. Hope this helps out. It was driving me nuts and I rebuilt this machine at least 3 times trying to get this to work correctly.
So far, I have not had any problems booting up the laptop. Similar threads. The Game Awards takes place tomorrow, check out the nominations, guests, and more.

When installing updates from Microsoft, most will prompt you to make a new ASR backup after installing the update. ASR will read the disk configurations from the file that it saved on the ASR diskette and restore all of the disk signatures, volumes and partitions on, at a minimum, the disks required to start the computer It will attempt to restore all of the disk configurations, but under some circumstances, it might not be able to. To use Automated System Recovery to recover after a system failure, you need to have the following items before you begin the procedure:.
You should only use the ASR backup to restore your system if all other methods to start your Windows XP system have failed. Check your computer's or motherboard's manual on how to do this. Usually you'll get a message to Press any key to boot from CD Next you will be prompted to insert the Windows Automated System Recovery Disk into the floppy drive. Insert the disk, and press any key.
The ASR process will be started, and without any further prompts, your system drive will be formatted, after which setup will start copying its files to the hard disk.
