Due to the unprecedented nature of the pandemic, we give charities such as this one the opportunity to share the story of COVID's impact on them. Charities may submit their own pandemic responses through their nonprofit portal. Due to the pandemic, YPIE was unable to host our annual fundraising gala which helps us raise a significant portion of our annual income.

Members of all three groups have been conducting peer-to-peer outreach to expand our network of donors to help us reach our fundraising goal. The YPIE team has worked diligently to leverage these relationships to obtain support through individual outreach using a Moves Management system.

We are leveraging this match as we reach out to previous attendees and donors. During the pandemic, YPIE focused on keeping our students engaged and on track for college. All programming continued remotely, including academic readiness, college advising, and support for our students in college.

YPIE adapted to the changing conditions caused by COVID by transitioning to a remote, and eventually, hybrid model where all staff meetings, student check-ins, and student programming were conducted online. We employed these tools to keep in touch with students and each other to make remote communication easier. YPIE intends to maintain a hybrid volunteer program. YPIE volunteers serve as Graduation Coaches who make a 4-year commitment to work with a student as they navigate high school and the college application process.

Transitioning to a hybrid volunteer model has allowed us to attract a larger and more diverse pool of volunteers who would not normally be able to make a 4-year commitment without the option of online meetings with students.

Even when the pandemic is behind us, YPIE will continue to offer a hybrid model of volunteering to continue to offer flexibility to volunteers. During this time, YPIE invested in advancing the leadership skills of its senior staff by participating in Leadership Westchester, a rigorous, nine-month curriculum designed to sharpen effective leadership skills and provide participants with the clarity to define and achieve their personal and professional goals. Multiple members of the YPIE team have been part of this program, which brings together a diverse group of individuals from for-profit and nonprofit organizations across Westchester County, NY.

They meet monthly in-person or by zoom last year and complete required coursework including participating in small group discussions between monthly classes. By investing both time and money for YPIE leaders to participate in Leadership Westchester, YPIE has gained exposure to leadership concepts taught at the top business schools for our own organizational development and the creation of a network of hundreds of prominent local business and other nonprofit leaders.

The nonprofit provides evidence of leadership through focusing externally and mobilizing resources for the mission. YPIE has several strategic partnerships that help us mobilize for the mission of our organization. We also partner with several businesses that support our YPIE Majors, a career pathways program that gives students hands-on, experiential learning opportunities. YPIE has developed relationships with hundreds of colleges and universities and hosts an annual convening of college admissions professionals to share strategies for helping low-income students obtain postsecondary success.

YPIE increases the visibility of its mission and amplifies the voices of our students through our website, blog posts, newsletter, and social media. The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year. All programming continued, including our academic readiness, college advising, and support for our students in college.
