Cannot download spyware

I cannot download anything on the cable connection, although I can load any page I want. Cannot download any updates for anything, not AVg, not Ewido, not Spybot, absolutly nothing will update, and if I downlaod a program or fix of any type there is always a file or something missing in it to cause it not to work!

What would cause that to happen? I have added a dial-up connection cause thats all i have at home. It will connect, but them i get the server cannot be found no matter what I try to do, can't even load the homepage. Is the problem with internet explorer or because of the two virus programs. I disabled Norton but I cannot remove it, it won't let me! How can I remove it? Any ideas? Talk at ya, later, and many thanks for your help.

Hello again Darlena Everyone has problems uninstalling Norton. I believe that they deliberately make it difficult to dissuade people from removing it. It wouldn't surprise me if Norton was the cause of your problems; I did a similar one in the UK last week and it was Norton.

Boot into safe mode keep tapping F8 when booting and choose safe mode from the menu. They sometimes like to be uninstalled in the right order. Also, please note that both Ccleaner and HijackThis have uninstalling facilities too.

Posted 28 January - PM. Goodafternoon, Well here I am, still not able to access the internet. I had to manuallly update Ewido. I didnot get "datebase could not be found" message. I still ran it but didnot save the file because it didn'y find anything. I installed Foxfire and imported all IE info. When I tried it all I got was a message saying connection refused. Also tried to connect to MSN messenger and it said something about proxy settings. I don't have the slightest idea what that means!

What do you think I should do next? Thanks agin for all your help! What is your set up? Dial-up, Broadband, DSL? Can you describe the physical connection between the PC and the internet please?

Have you thought about doing a system restore to a point in time when everything worked OK? I would be surprised if your problem is now due to malware, but I can check a lot deeper.

I think you have hit the nail on the head with the error message from Firefox; you've got a proxy server set up somewhere.
